(MONROEVILLE, Pa. – January 26, 2011) The Group Troop organization at RJ Lee Group, Inc. contributed $3,600, its single largest donation of the year and the result of its blockbuster holiday Chinese auction, to Pittsburgh’s Make-a-Wish Foundation. Allison Murtha, Group Troop President, commenting on the success of the auction noted “It’s incredible how the company employees came together in support of this project. It’s really about the kids, especially during the holidays, and we’re so happy to have made a child’s wish come true.” The Group Troop is a voluntary, in-house social organization that was formed at RJ Lee Group materials characterization laboratory in late 2009 to promote involvement in the local community. Though company employees had previously contributed time and money to community organizations, it wasn’t until the ‘Troop’ received non-profit status in 2010 that they were able to formalize their charitable activities.
Group Troop activities in 2010 ranged from charitable walks to chili cook-offs and ice cream socials to outright money, food and toy donations. Some of the organizations that benefited included the Light of Life homeless shelter, the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. The KDKA Turkey Fund received a $1000 donation as a result of selling an employee cookbook that resulted in a matching donation from PNC Bank. In addition to the charitable events, the Troop has set up recycle baskets for eyeglasses and cell phones and manages the recycling stations at work. “We are already planning our activities for 2011,” noted Erin Barozzini, Troop Co-President, “and we anticipate raising more money and becoming more involved in our community.”
“Involvement in the community has always been important at RJ Lee Group,” said Dr. Richard J. Lee, Chief Executive Officer, “and this is what has helped shape the success of the Group Troop. Our company has a history of reaching out to the community with educational programs to bring science and technology into the classroom. Supporting the Group Troop and its charitable activities is just another way for RJ Lee Group to give back to the community.”
