RJ Lee Group, Inc., materials characterization laboratory and industrial forensics consulting firm, is pleased to welcome Dr. James Duncan as Director at the Center for Laboratory Sciences (CLS) located in Pasco, Washington. As Director of CLS, Dr. Duncan will be managing the lab’s day-to-day operations with a focus on chemistry and analytical capabilities, assisting current clients, and cultivating new business opportunities in the Tri-City area. Dr. Duncan’s expertise in water treatment, chemical separations, and hazardous waste treatment technologies is supported by a strong background in industrial research and development. According to Rich Lee, CEO, “Jim strengthens our existing offerings in industrial forensics, environmental and materials science, and brings a new dimension in corrosion science, water treatment, and nuclear waste management that complements our existing laboratory service offerings.”
Prior to joining RJ Lee Group, Dr. Duncan spent more than twenty years at the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford Site, most recently in the support of reduction and sequesterization of radionuclides of interest in secondary waste streams generated during radioactive waste treatment. While at Hanford, he has collaborated with other National Labs in programs related to the Hanford site, particularly in the development of barriers to the migration of radioactive elements. He instituted the electrochemical corrosion testing program for Hanford’s underground storage tank integrity which necessitated an understanding of Hanford Tank Waste chemistry. Dr. Duncan has been called upon for his water chemistry and separations expertise by Los Alamos National Laboratory (proton storage ring) and at various Hanford Site areas.
Dr. Duncan earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering in 1985 and holds an M.S. in Immunochemistry from the Texas Tech University and a B.S. in Bacteriology from the University of Arkansas. He is also a member of the graduate engineering faculty at Washington State University and instructs graduate environmental engineering courses at the Tri-City campus. He has chaired over 25 Masters Committees and served on many more.
