2012 3rd USAF ASC/AFRL Engineered Nanomaterials Environment, Safety, & Health Workshop

Website: https://www.seeuthere.com/rsvp/invitation/invitation.asp?id=/m2c640-1TTWMKXUYDL98

Dates:              January 10 – January 12, 2012

Location:         Hope Hotel, Bldg 823 Area A, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH  45433-5000

RJ Lee Group Senior Scientist, Mr. Gary Casuccio, will deliver a presentation on “Development of a Thermophorphic Sampler for Collection of Nanoparticles” at the 11:00 – 11:30 AM session on Thursday, January 12, 2012.

The Air Force and the DoD are concerned with the human health and environmental risks of nanomaterials. Regarding the intense focus in developing novel nanoscale materials there is a degree of apprehension concerning the potential human health and environmental risks associated with engineered nanomaterials (NM). This workshop will provide a basic understanding of nanomaterials, their use in weapon system acquisition, and regulations or standards used to mitigate ESOH risks. This workshop will weigh the risks and shed light on the potential problems which may become a reality in the near future.

The goal of the workshop is to bring together technical representatives from industry, academia, the branches within the tri-service, and other government agencies to discuss the knowledge gaps in nanotoxicology, human health implications, risk and regulations, issues in acquisition, specialist in predictive modeling, geochemist, and specialist in nanomaterial characterization/synthesis, functional nanomaterials and their biological interactions. The workshop is hosted by the Aeronautical Systems Center Environmental & Health Risk Management Branch (ASC/WNVV) and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) 711th Human Performance Wing (711th HPW).
