Reflections on the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 Tragedy

Ten years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, staff at RJ Lee Group who were involved in assessing the environmental aftermath of the collapse of the Twin Towers reflect on their participation. “We needed the objectivity to perform the scientific tasks at hand, but our hearts were so full of emotion we struggled every day to reach that goal,” related Dr. Richard J. Lee, President and CEO of RJ Lee Group, Inc. “Those who participated in the collection, processing, and analysis of samples made a valuable contribution to the revitalization process. They provided the data needed to assess environmental impact to determine if buildings could be safely reoccupied.” 

RJ Lee Group is an industrial forensics laboratory headquartered in Monroeville, Pa. that established an office in New York City after the tragic events of 9/11 and remained to process more than 100,000 environmental dust samples collected over a three-year period. Their work resulted in the establishment of a WTC dust “signature” that continues to be used to identify dust resulting from the WTC tragedy.
