RJ Lee Group to Host Nanotechnology Innovation Executive Briefing Series on Regulation of Nanotechnology

 

(MONROEVILLE, PA – May 25, 2011) RJ Lee Group, Inc. will host a presentation in the continuing Nanotechnology Innovation Executive Briefing Series at their Monroeville Headquarters on Thursday, June 2, 2011. The title of the presentation is ”REGULATION OF NANOTECHNOLOGY― Where Innovation and Environmental, Health, and Safety Concerns Intersect, and it will be presented in two parts: regulatory and environmental. Part 1 will be presented by Ms. Mary Beth Deemer of Jones Day law firm who will review the existing and proposed regulation of products containing nanoscale materials, along with issues relevant to such regulation. Mr. Gary Casuccio, Senior Scientist at RJ Lee Group, will continue with Part 2 in which he will discuss the state of the art with respect to sampling, analysis, and risk assessment, including evaluation of nanoparticles from a work exposure and environmental release perspective. Dr. Alan Brown, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center (PA Nano Center) will provide an introduction to the event and host a Question and Answer session afterwards. Attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for a guided tour of the facility’s nanotechnology instrumentation at the program’s conclusion. The event will begin at 4 P.M. with registration and hors d’oeuvres and conclude with tours at 6:15 P.M.

Mary Beth Deemer (Jones Day) has more than 25 years of experience defending clients in environmental disputes; negotiating the environmental aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions; and counseling clients concerning environmental compliance issues. She speaks and writes frequently on environmental issues and initiatives that may affect the development of the Marcellus Shale natural-gas play, along with sustainability, corporate disclosure, and shareholder activism in the area of climate change, as well as the regulation of products containing nanoscale materials. Mary Beth is a two-time BTI Client Service All-Star.

Gary Casuccio (RJ Lee Group) has more than 30 years of experience in the characterization of particulate matter using electron microscopy techniques for environmental, industrial hygiene, powder metals, pharmaceutical, and metallurgical applications. He serves as an advisor and consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding individual particle analysis. Gary has also been active in the development of analytical methodologies based on microscopy techniques and served as the group leader in the development of ASTM standards related to the sampling and analysis protocols of single-crystal ceramic whiskers. With respect to nanoparticles, Gary is working with industry, several national laboratories, and government agencies (DOE, EPA, NIST, and NIOSH) in the evaluation of nanoparticles from an industrial hygiene and environmental perspective.
