RJ Lee Group Begins Schoolhouse Project and Partnership with West Greene School District.
RJ Lee Group begins developing innovative educational programs based on access to advanced microscopy instrumentation and providing exceptional educational and business opportunities to students in Greene County. This partnership with West Greene School District lead to the establishment of a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) laboratory known as the Schoolhouse Project at West Greene Middle/High School. The first in the country, this laboratory provides Greene County high school and middle school students with real life experience in microscopic analysis. A School-to-Work component, funded in part through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), is a model for developing high technology jobs in rural areas.

RJ Lee Group Spins Off New Instrument Manufacturing Company.
RJ Lee Group spins off RJ Lee Instruments, now known as ASPEX. Recognizing the limitations and costs associated with traditional scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the company developed and introduced the world's first "personalized" SEM, or PSEMTM (a trademark of ASPEX Corporation) microscope. The timing of the introduction coincided with a number of important trends, including increased emphasis on materials characterization, the outsourcing of R&D applications to service laboratories, and the "quality revolution" of the 1990s.

RJ Lee Group Introduces Personal Scanning Electron Microscope (PSEM™).
The PSEMTM microscrope, the world's first "personal" Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), remains the only truly integrated SEM/EDX system. Now in its third generation, the ASPEX (formerly RJ Lee Instruments) PSEMTM microscope is designed for the semi-automated imaging and analysis of inorganic specimens in the millimeter to sub-micron range. The PSEMTM microscope is ideally suited for routine, 24/7 production environments, and is designed to meet the imaging and microanalysis needs of 95% of the industrial microscopy marketplace. In addition, the microscope is a versatile analysis tool that is widely used in both general and forensic laboratories.
