CAN WE BAN ASBESTOS IN AMERICA?
By Richard Lee PhD, Kim Allison, Kristin Bunker PhD, Brian Strohmeier PhD, Drew Van Orden

The word “Asbestos” invokes very strong emotional responses in many Americans. Since the mid-1970’s, the fear over the effects of potential asbestos exposure in schools to our children became one of the most newsworthy and dominant public indoor environmental concerns. This concern eventually led to the ban of asbestos-containing products in public schools. An entirely new industry sprung up in the mid-1980’s for asbestos testing and removal of asbestos-containing materials, not only from schools, but eventually from public and commercial buildings as well. Yet in spite of how much press asbestos products received, the general public and news media have very little understanding as to what is asbestos and how exposure to it potentially affects human health. Contrary to general belief, it is still legal in the United States to import, process, manufacture, and use asbestos-containing products for certain limited uses.

President Bush Presents Service Award to RJLG Employee top

President Bush rewards RJLG employeePresident George W. Bush visited Pittsburgh on March 27, 2008, to attend a private fundraiser and present the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Lydia Humenycky for her work in the Peace Corps. Lydia spent two and a half years working and teaching business skills in Togo, West Africa.

"When you go into something like that, you're not really sure what you're going to get out of it," she said. "You kind of hope for the best. But personally and professionally, it was a really good choice, and I'm very happy with everything I've learned and everything I've been able to share."

Lydia worked as a small-business development adviser in two communities in Togo. Her most focused work was with a group of nine independent coffee growers. All but one were illiterate, and they were struggling to establish a viable coffee business. She taught them accounting, computer, and marketing skills and she helped them grow their business through market research and product development -- skills she was familiar with but required creative approaches to put to use in a Third World economy.

"I've made some really strong connections that I hope to keep sustainable," she said. "Hopefully, I'll continue working with the coffee group to grow their business from here."

Upon her return to the U.S., she accepted a position as marketing coordinator with RJLG.

Hexavalent Chromium and Dire-Need Analysis!
By Ellen Martin, Corporate Sales Representative

As a valued customer it is our goal at RJ Lee Group to meet or exceed your expectations by providing the most accurate and timely analytical results possible.

Hexavalent Chromium Brochure“Help us Help You!” The single most important means to that end is completion of the Chain-of-Custody. Providing a fully completed Chain-of-Custody enables us to give you the answers you need, when you need them. Indicating your requested Turn-Around Time (TAT) is essential and emailing, mailing or faxing the Chain-of-Custody in advance of the actual samples (pre-log-in) allows our analysts to “hit the ground running” when the samples arrive.

Without the specific information essential to some analytical procedures, delay is inevitable and may even compromise the sample itself. This is especially true with Hexavalent Chromium. Since sample preparation methods and handling procedures for welding fumes are different from spray painting it is particularly important that the Chain-of-Custody be complete and accurate.

If you require assistance or have any questions regarding completion of your Chain-of-Custody please do not hesitate to contact our client services representatives at 800-860-1775.

For extra help with same day or 24 hour TAT, FedEx provides a 1st overnight service which guarantees samples arrival by 8:00am.
