In the late 1960s, a few forward-looking individuals, with an eye toward advancing the cause of interdisciplinary research, envisioned a "materials-blind" society and made that vision a reality-the Materials Research Society. The Society's core principles were interdisciplinarity, focused symposia, and greater interaction among researchers. Today, MRS has over 14,000 members--researchers in the ever-expanding field of materials science.
One of the premier archival journals devoted to original research,
Journal of Materials Research (JMR) is edited by renowned materials scientists from the world's most respected research facilities. Published monthly (over 3,500 pages technical pages annually), JMR contains archival papers, rapid communications and reviews. It is comprehensive in nature and since its inception has addressed more than 150 different topics on materials synthesis and processing, microstructure and properties-demonstrating its commitment to the continued advancement of materials research.
