Fractional Crystallization of Radioactive Wastes
RJ Lee Group (RJLG) provided key technical expertise to develop a pretreatment of radioactive wastes found at the Hanford Tank Farm. This pretreatment involves fractional crystallization of certain inorganic materials. It allowed the Department of Energy (DOE) to apply established procedures to treat millions of gallons of waste, which had been unsuitable for treatment. A pilot demonstration was successful, and a full-scale plant is now under construction.
