Monthly Environmental Monitoring at a Hospital Medical Center Pharmacy Compounding Area
RJ Lee Group (RJLG) performs environmental monitoring in the pharmacy compounding area at hospitals to assess compliance with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Standard 797 section on Environmental Quality and Control, subsection Environmental Monitoring. The collection of active air samples and surface samples for viable microorganisms is conducted in each controlled air environment every month. The controlled air environments include laminar airflow workbenches (LAFWs), biological safety cabinets (BSCs), buffer areas, and ante areas. An Andersen N-6 Single Stage Impactor and calibrated sampling pump are utilized to collect air samples and surface samples are collected using replicate organism detection and counting (RODAC) contact plates. Particle count readings are also obtained in each controlled air environment for comparison with the International Standards Organization (ISO) classifications for clean rooms. A report containing the test results and recommendations for correcting deficiencies is issued each month.
