Analytical Support for Tunneling Projects in Serpentine Rock
The 3.4-mile Claremont Tunnel near Berkley, CA, was seismically upgraded so that it will survive a major earthquake and allow the safe delivery of water after such an event. This six month tunneling project created a two mile-long tunnel in serpentine and other ultramafic rock. RJ Lee Group (RJLG) took part in the enlargement efforts by analyzing possible contamination in surrounding soil to ensure worker health and safety. RJLG provided daily rush analysis for asbestos, silica, dust, and heavy metals samples. In addition to analyzing samples for the assessment of worker health and safety, RJLG tested excavated rock and soil to determine proper disposal or on-site use.
