Fracture Mode Determination of Mounting Flange
The mounting flange on a motor control module was inspected and analyzed. The flange exhibits a fracture and cracking associated with a bolt hole at one corner. RJ Lee Group (RJLG) examined the flange to determine the fracture mode of the observed cracks. The failure was consistent with a stress governed single event fracture. The matrix exhibited ductile fracture characteristics on all examined regions. Fatigue was not identified as a factor in the failure nor was a material defect identified during this examination.
