RJ Lee Group (RJLG) collected air and dust samples from 142 homes around Northridge, CA, after an earthquke in 1995. Our experts supervised the collection of samples by CA Certified Asbestos Consultants, according to normal industrial hygiene practices. Bulk samples were taken only of building materials that were damaged or expected to be damaged during repair work. Over 1,300 air samples were collected in the homes to use in the evaluation of potential risk to the occupants during periods of normal activity. The samples were analyzed using PCM (NIOSH 7400) and TEM (NIOSH (7402) methods. Surface dust was collected from various homes using adhesive lift sampling (2,000 samples) and microvacuum (900 samples) sampling. The adhesive lift samples were examined using PCM NIOSH 7400 and SEM; PCM and SEM were used to determine the fiber content of the sample. TEM was used on the microvacuum samples to determine the concentration of asbestos structures ≥ to 0.5 micrometers, asbestos fibers ≥ to 0.5 micrometers long and the weight percent of asbestos.
