The field of forensic science has historically been associated with criminal investigation and analysis. However, the methods and problem solving skills inherent to forensic scientists has evolved into routine commercial and industrial applications. This presentation will focus on the application of forensic science testing methodologies in the investigation of industrial problems. Several case studies will be discussed in which forensic scientists have applied routine trace evidence analysis to solve analytical problems in the industrial community. The presentation will emphasize the immense value of forensic problem solving approaches common to our everyday work that has evolved into commercial and industrial areas outside the realm of criminal and civil law.
