Iron-rich ambient airborne particle approximately 700 nm in diameter collected using the Nano-ID size selective sampler on front lawn of RJ Lee Group, Inc. on December 10, 2009. This uniquely shaped particle is likely the result of a combustion process. Special thanks to J. Michael Wilmoth, Project Engineer and Traci L. Lersch, Electron Microscopist for collecting and analyzing the sample. |
| Particulate Characterization |
Operation of an industrial facility can cause anxiety in the community just by its existence. Normal airborne dust is sometimes characterized by the community as industrial pollution. If such concerns are not promptly addressed, citizens demand the intervention of government regulatory bodies. A proactive approach can provide the facility with facts to address concerns and to evaluate the effectiveness of any remedial action. By strategically locating monitoring stations and periodically examining the samples collected, dust generation can be documented. The data can be used to ease public concern and to demonstrate the facilities’ commitment to maintain a safe, unobtrusive presence in the community. Particulate can contain a wide variety of inorganic constituents. Our analytical laboratory offers expert analytical services ranging from gravimetry and x-ray diffraction to characterization of “unknowns” by electron microscopy.
