Forensic Defect Analysis

The materials engineering staff at RJLG are experts in the field of forensic analysis of defects and fractures and routinely assist our clients with identification of root causes of material failures either in the application environment or during product testing. These skills can be brought to bear on materials issues experienced during various stages of product development to assist our clients in addressing manufacturing or performance challenges. Our knowledgeable staff can apply the extensive laboratory abilities offered by RJLG to provide complete analyses of defects or fractures, with scientific data to directly support the conclusions drawn.

The ability developed by RJLG to analyze a high number of particles in a very short amount of time through the use of computer controlled SEM (CCSEM) techniques reduces assumptions about how representative a given sample is, and provides the customer with a much higher level of confidence in the data than in traditional sampling techniques. The CCSEM capability of RJLG allows for a microscopic survey of much larger areas than standard labor-intensive SEM techniques. Combined with the forensic training of our experts to identify the source of the contamination, we contribute high level value to our clients’ efforts in medical device development and manufacturing.
