Particulate Characterization

According to the EPA, speciation is, “is the process of disaggregating inventory pollutants into individual chemical species components or groups of species.”  Identification of particles and speciation are helpful in determining the presence of pollutants.  There are many classifications of particulate matter that reveal different information about environmental quality.  Particles may be characterized in terms of specific pollutants such as sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) or by amount of particles in a specific aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5 or PM10).  RJLG assesses the situation and determines the appropriate course of action.  From devising sampling plans to analyzing samples to recommending corrective actions, our experts can support any or all functions of the speciation program.
