Experience Level
Dr. Stephen Kennedy has more than 30 years of experience as a geologist. Since joining RJLG in 1992, he has worked extensively on numerous projects involving electron microprobe analysis of soil samples from metal-impacted sites, including a Superfund site; and on a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project involving the characterization of silt in a fluvial setting.

Dr. Kennedy is involved in many high profile projects. He has applied electron beam instrumentation to characterize particulate in a variety of settings, including heavy metals in soils, lead in paint, World Trade Center dust, and impurities in powder metal.  He also plays a major role in RJLG's Schoolhouse Project, which specialized in bringing high-technology instrumentation into the classroom through remote access and simulation.

He has extensive knowledge in particle shape and size analysis, petrographic image analysis and computer mapping obtained during post-graduate work and eight years in the Geology Department at the University of Pittsburgh. His expertise involves sedimentology, sedimentary petrology, depositional environments and geological computer applications.

He is a Pennsylvania State Certified Professional Geologist member of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists. In addition, he is a member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists, International Association for Mathematical Geology, and the Geological Society of America.

He has published in peer-reviewed literature.
