Mr. James Pellegrino holds the position of senior materials consultant at RJ Lee Group and is the resident expert in mechanical failure analysis. Mr. Pellegrino has worked for nearly 50 years to provide solutions to various materials problems. He not only strives to establish the cause of failures, he also looks to reduce the cost of mechanical maintenance and equipment downtime as well as provide technical assistance to clients allowing them to improve their market value.

Throughout his career Mr. Pellegrino has specialized in the fields of metallography, fractography, and failure/fracture analysis. Utilizing optical and scanning-electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, he has examined and analyzed thousands of ferrous and non-ferrous specimens. Mr. Pellegrino's failure analyses experience covers a broad array of structures including bridges, boilers, chemical plant pressure vessels, marine propulsion and steering component devices. He has also analyzed steelmaking, rolling mill, and mining equipment as well as down-hole oil, gas and steam components.

As a byproduct of his work in failure analysis, Mr. Pellegrino has rewritten numerous specifications for mining, lifting, and heavy industrial equipment. Additionally, he has served as an international consultant on the design, manufacture, and failure analysis of longwall mining systems (and associated components) that are produced in Europe and Asia.

Mr. Pellegrino gained his extensive experience in several positions before arriving at RJLG. He was employed as manager of the technical services division at West Homestead Engineering and Machine Company (WHEMCO), and he was an associate research consultant at the USX Corporation Technical Center, formerly known as the U. S. Steel Research Laboratory, in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Pellegrino is a member of the American Society of Metals.

Mr. Pellegrino co-authored and/or presented several technical papers which have been published in professional journals of the American Society of Metals (ASM), American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Petroleum Institute (API), American Association of Railroads (AAR), American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and Iron and Steel Society (ISS). These publications involved various aspects of metallography, metallurgy, fractography, fracture mechanics, and failure analysis.
