Mr. Michael Potter joined RJLG in 2000 as a senior scientist with a background in scanning electron microscopy. Since that time, he has assisted in a project involving various steel manufacturers to develop an automated tool built upon an SEM platform that is capable of detecting defects in steel heats during processing. As part of this undertaking, Mr. Potter received the American Iron and Steel Institute Medal for 2003. The medal is awarded to the technical paper having special merit and importance in connection with the activities and interests of the iron and steel industry for a given year.

Mr. Potter has worked on projects related to the event of 9/11. He was responsible for compiling and summarizing the results from thousand's of analyses and preparing detailed reports on the types of contamination present. This involved results from buildings throughout Manhattan. He has worked intensively with experts in the fields of architecture, mechanical building systems, toxicology, environmental contamination and remediation/restoration, as well as with attorneys on multi-million dollar lawsuits. In addition, he assisted in and created volumes of trial-quality graphic materials.

Mr. Potter was instrumental in developing profile maps of chlorine gas contamination from a train derailment in South Carolina. He has also spent time developing marketing materials and presentations that were given at conferences/technical meetings world-wide.

He has published in peer-reviewed literature.
