Sturgeon, Jacqueline Job Title:
Materials Scientist

Degrees Earned
PhD, Materials Science, Pennsylvania State University, 2007BS, Materials Science and Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, 2003

Experience Level
Since her arrival at RJ Lee Group in 2007, Dr. Jacqueline Sturgeon has worked primarily with industrial clients investigating materials related issues in product development, processing, and failure stages. This often requires analysis using multiple techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), optical microscopy, thermogravimentric analysis (TGA), BET/pore size analysis, and infrared (FT-IR)/Raman spectroscopy.

Prior to her work with RJLG, Dr. Sturgeon was a research assistant, graduate assistant and teaching assistant at Pennsylvania State University where she earned both her PhD and her Bachelor's degrees.  There, she focused on ceramic science and was involved in several research projects. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she conducted research for her doctoral thesis in the area of hydroxyapatite and calcium phosphate based cements for biomaterials. This included synthesis and characterization of apatites formed at low temperatures with a variety of materials including polyphosphazenes, dense ceramic calcium phosphates, phosphonates, and fluoride and carbonate substitutions. Her undergraduate thesis research focused on protein interactions at the liquid-vapor interface.

She has published in peer-reviewed literature.
