Sanchez, Matthew S. - Technical Manager, Optical and Bulk XRD Services
Mr. Matt Sanchez was recently named the technical manager of the optical and bulk XRD services group. He oversees the daily operations for both groups, interfacing with clients requesting information in these areas and assisting the staff with a multitude of technical challenges.
Schafer, Jerome W. - Manager, Sales and Client Services
Mr. Jerome Schafer was recently promoted to manager, sales and client services at RJLG. His experience with scanning electron microscopy and many years working in client services make him an invaluable asset.
Schiefelbein, Benedict - Regional Sales Manager, California
Dr. Benedict Schiefelbein has more than 20 years of industry and laboratory experience. His main field of specialization is the characterization of materials using surface analytical techniques and chemical instrumentation.
Schlaegle, Steven - Director, Biomedical Services
Mr. Steven Schlaegle has nearly 20 years of experience in materials characterization. He is currently in charge of business development for biomedical device manufacturers.
Schlager, Steven M. - Chemist
Mr. Steven Schlager has more than 20 years of experience as an engineering scientist. His responsibilities include performing gas chromatography, fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analyses.
Schwoeble, A.J. - Forensic Technical Advisor
Mr. A.J. 'Skip' Schwoeble has more than 20 years of forensic analytical experience. This includes designing, implementing and reporting specialized testing programs. He played a key role in developing adhesive-lift technology used for sampling skin and fabric for trace evidence applications and for surface and indoor ambient air particulate sampling. He was also a principal architect for computer software to perform GSR (gunshot residue) analysis and developed high-speed videography techniques for the study of GSR plume development for commonly used weapons in the United States.
Sciulli, Alex G. - President and Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Mr. Alex G. Sciulli, P.E., D.E.E. is RJ Lee Group's (RJLG) new president and chief operating officer (COO). Mr. Sciulli joins RJLG having most recently served as executive vice president, director of corporate real estate services at National City Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio.
Sears, Joseph L. - Manager, Technical Services, CLS
Dr. Joseph Sears has more than 25 years of professional experience in chemical characterization and analysis and method development. He is the lead on method development and implementation of new methods to increase the diversity of services offered by RJLG's Center for Laboratory Sciences (CLS).
Sedlak, Matthew - Waynesburg Director of IT & Office Manager; Program Manager for EHM+DRC, EHM+ and CBM+
Mr. Matthew Sedlak is RJLG’s Waynesburg, PA director of IT and office manager for the IT department. In addition, he is the program manager for the Engine Health Management Plus Data Repository Center (EHM+DRC), Engine Health Management Plus (EHM+) and Condition Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) United States Air Force Propulsion Community programs.
Shober, Harlan - Enterprise Architect
Mr. Harlan Shober is an enterprise architect at RJ Lee Group, with more than 15 years of professional software development and technical leadership experience. As the lead architect and engineering manager for U.S. Air Force projects with RJLG, he is responsible for the technical direction and implementation of software systems in the area of Reliability Centered Maintenance, Engine Trending and Diagnostics, and Condition Based Maintenance.
Silsbee, Michael - Senior Scientist
Dr. Michael Silsbee has more than 20 years experience in the laboratory. He manages projects involving the evaluation of construction materials, mainly focusing on concrete related projects. In addition, He assists with the ongoing efforts to develop new products for the construction industry.
Smay, Theresa - Product Manager - eLIMS System
Ms. Theresa Smay is a product manager at RJLG, providing product direction and management for their laboratory information management systems. She has more than 15 years of experience in the software industry.
Somple, Elana A. - Manager, Forensic Science Services
Ms. Elana Somple has more than 13 years experience as a scientist and manages the forensic science department at RJLG. She has been analyzing gunshot residue samples for the past seven years and has been qualified as an expert in 18 states.
Spangler, Jr., Charles E. - Consultant
Mr. Charles Spangler is a key member of the RJLG decision-making team. He is the former chief operating officer and he has also served as the director of operations. Mr. Spangler heads the superalloy powder metal evaluation project that qualifies powder metal lots for use in critical jet aircraft engine parts. He has also taken the lead to develop new, recently patented technology that will be extremely beneficial in future powder metal evaluations projects.
Sparrow, Mark C - Project Scientist
Mr. Mark Sparrow came to RJLG in April, 2008 with nearly 15 years of analytical chemistry experience. He has extensive knowledge in failure analysis; spectroscopic methods including Raman, infrared, UV-Vis, AA and chemical imaging.; chromatographic methods including HPLC, GPC and GC; thermal analysis methods including thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and oxidation induction; visible microscopy and digital imaging.; scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis; and reverse engineering techniques.
Strohmeier, Brian R. - Manager, Surface Analysis Laboratory
Dr. Brian Strohmeier has more than 28 years of research experience in the practical application of surface analytical techniques for industrial problem solving, product/process development, and materials characterization. His technical experience involves the study of adhesion, corrosion, oxidation, and wetting phenomena; chemical and plasma modification of material surfaces; and the surface characterization of metals, oxides, glass and fiberglass materials, ceramics, polymers, vacuum-deposited thin films, organic coatings and heterogeneous catalysts. He also has served as an expert witness for litigation involving results from surface analytical techniques.
Stulga, John - Senior Scientist
Mr. John Stulga has nearly 30 years of experience as a materials engineer. He has experience with optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. His background is in the area of catalysis, nickel base super alloys and specialty steels.
Sturgeon, Jacqueline L. - Materials Scientist
Dr. Jacqueline Sturgeon is a materials scientist at RJLG and has worked primarily with industrial clients investigating materials related issues in product development, processing, and failure stages. This often requires analysis using multiple techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), optical microscopy, thermogravimentric analysis (TGA), BET/pore size analysis, and infrared (FT-IR)/Raman spectroscopy.
Sundell, David - Senior Scientist, Field Services
Mr. David Sundell is a project engineer at RJLG’s New York office, with more than 15 years of experience. While at RJLG, he was a field sampling technician and field supervisor during an environmental impact assessment study of a large commercial office building in lower Manhattan that was damaged as a result of the World Trade Center disaster.
Sutch, Karen - Project Manager
Ms. Karen Sutch is a project manager for the pharmaceutical / biotechnology group at RJ Lee Group. She oversees the sample preparation, analysis and identification of trace particulate contaminants within the pharmaceutical industry, using such techniques as optical microscopy, scanning electron spectroscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and RAMAN spectroscopy.
Thaulow, Niels - Senior Scientist
Mr. Niels Thaulow is a chemical engineer who, over a career of nearly 40 years, has gained international recognition as an expert in the durability of concrete. As an experienced petrographer, his work includes analyzing over 20,000 thin sections of concrete. He has spearheaded the development of techniques for optical petrography and scanning electron microscopy for the examination of concrete. In addition, he has independently developed new methods for assessing the properties and quality of concrete.
Van Orden, Drew R. - Senior Scientist
Mr. Drew Van Orden has more than 20 years of experience developing asbestos analytical methods; analyzing asbestos-containing materials; and the design, conduct and evaluation of studies to measure potential asbestos release from asbestos-containing materials. He has been qualified as an expert in State and Federal courts in numerous asbestos cases. During his career, he has testified about the development and use of scientific knowledge and techniques regarding the collection, analysis and measurement of airborne asbestos levels and governmental and industrial standards, past and present, for airborne asbestos and the history and current methodologies for electron microscopy.
Wagner, Keith - Senior Scientist
Mr. Keith Wagner has more than 20 years experience as a materials scientist. His technical skills focus on industrial problem solving, materials evaluation and failure analysis. He has expertise in industrial problem solving for manufacturing processes and material interactions catering to the automotive, aviation, electronics and biomedical industries. He has performed numerous compositional and structural evaluations of polymeric, ceramic and metallic alloy systems. In addition, he is also skilled in optical and electron microscopy, X-ray spectral analysis techniques, mechanical properties testing among other techniques for materials characterization.
Wilmoth, J. Michael - Project Engineer
Mr. Michael Wilmoth is a project engineer at RJLG and has more than 5 years of experience as an environmental engineer. His skills range from project design and implementation to project oversight.
Wolfe, Julianne - Manager, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Services
Ms. Julie Wolfe has assumed the role of manager of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology group for the Pennsylvania laboratories, located in both Monroeville and Waynesburg. Julie brings 7 years of analytical experience spanning several disciplines. While her main focus is within the pharmaceutical bervices and biotechnology section, she also supports other departments, such as litigation and materials, with Raman analysis and interpretation.
Wood, Patricia - Manager, Corporate Quality Assurance
Ms. Patricia Wood has more 18 years of professional experience working in quality-related positions. She is preparing the company for ISO 17025 and A2LA certification, and is responsible for attaining and maintaining various environmental accreditations. She focuses her efforts on ensuring that procedures, processes and laboratory practices at RJLGare in compliance with all of the relevant standards and regulations.
Zitkovich, Keena B. - Forensic Scientist
Ms. Keena Zitkovich is a forensic scientist at RJLG. She joined the staff full time in the summer of 2008 after working as an intern in the forensic science department. Her focus is in the analysis of gunshot residue using a scanning electron microscope. She also has a continued focus on other trace evidence analyses including paint and tape.
Zock, Matthew D - Industrial Hygienist
Mr. Matthew Zock has 8 years experience with RJLG as an industrial hygienist and field supervisor for the technical consulting services group. Mr. Zock provides a variety of services for heath care, general industry, and litigation support.
