RJ Lee Group’s Dr. Kristin Lee Bunker has been elected a Microbeam Analysis Society (MAS) Director for 2007-2009. Dr. Bunker is a scientist in the technical consulting group at RJLG. Most recently, she has been focused on a project involving the characterization and identification of minerals from mining deposits using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and stereo pair microscopy.

PITTSBURGH – RJ Lee Group’s Dr. Kristin Lee Bunker has been elected a Microbeam Analysis Society (MAS) Director for 2007-2009. Dr. Bunker is a scientist in the technical consulting group at RJ Lee Group. Most recently, she has been focused on a project involving the characterization and identification of minerals from mining deposits using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and stereo pair microscopy. She received her B.S. in Physics from Miami University of Ohio, her M.S. in Biotechnology from Northwestern University and her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University (NCSU).

Kristin’s father, Dr. Richard Lee, president and CEO of RJ Lee Group, first introduced her to microscopy at a young age at the U.S. Steel research lab, where they imaged her teeth and hair in a SEM. The interest in microscopy continued and she found herself working on the development of microscopy characterization techniques for semiconductor materials during her degree program at NCSU. While at NCSU, her advisor, Dr. Phil Russell, also introduced her to the people, purpose and vision of MAS by promoting and preparing his students to attend the Microscopy and Microanalysis meetings every year. Kristin presented her work each year while a student and won the MAS Distinguished Scholar Award in 2005. She has published 7 articles and 3 book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and presented 5 platform and 9 poster presentations at local and national conferences.

After being a student for many years, Kristin appreciates the importance of providing a venue and promoting students to present their work, the impact of social gatherings and interaction, and feeling part of a community of scientists. She received encouragement, earned confidence and made friends while participating in MAS meetings and activities. As a MAS Director, she plans to work with local universities, vendors, companies, and other societies to promote student participation and interaction.

RJ Lee Group is an innovative environmental and materials characterization company that excels in the analysis of materials using chemical and microscopy techniques.
