As early as 2007, RJ Lee Group has helped make wishes come true for local children with life-threatening medical conditions through the Make-A-Wish foundation. On December 9, our Group Troop organization presented a donation to Shannon O’Halloran, Development Coordinator from Make-A-Wish for a total of $1500.

The Group Troop was founded in 2009 as an in-house social organization to promote RJ Lee Group’s involvement in the community. Annual activities include charitable walks, donations of food, clothing, and toys, ice cream socials, pot-luck luncheons, pop-up pretzel sales, Steelers’ pools, and recycling efforts. RJ Lee Group employees nominate local organizations to support each year, and a company-wide vote is held to choose the recipient of the donations. The Pittsburgh Dream Center won the vote for 2015. However, a portion of the yearly contributions are always presented to Make-A-Wish to help children and families in need. The company’s annual holiday party includes a gift basket raffle, when groups within the company contribute gift baskets that feature a wide variety of themes, from spa trips to food baskets to varieties of gift cards. The money raised from the raffle ticket sale is contributed to Make-A-Wish.

Kristy Anderson of the Group Troop explained why the organization continues to be a favorite charity of the company, saying, “I think Make-A-Wish continues to be so popular because so many of the people at RJ Lee Group enjoy being a part of making a difference in a child’s life, especially those with a life-threatening illness. It is a tradition that we all look forward to every year. Our employees vote each year on the charities to which we’ll contribute, and Make-A-Wish is always at the top of the list.”
