Don Ewert, a consulting Occupational Health specialist, & Marc Hugus, Manager, Business Development will be attending the EIA National Conference & Exhibition on March 17th in San Diego, California. This conference is a great source for information on mold identification and remediation, environmental sampling and analysis, lead-based paint abatement, asbestos management, indoor air quality, regulatory compliance audits, environmental site assessments, and environmental management systems.

They will also be giving a presentation titled: “OSHA and Crystalline Silica; Examining the Rules”. This presentation will focus on regulatory changes related to silica exposure control, and specifically Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS). You can read a small excerpt from their presentation below. To read more about the event, click here.

“While silica exposure control has been an OSHA regulated requirement for more than 30 years, recent changes to these regulations is having a serious impact on the construction and industrial processing communities.  In addition, most occupational health professionals are unaware of the fact that these exposure rules start with HazCom 2012, which regulates Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) in bulk materials.  Having adopted the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling (GHS-2015), OSHA now limits RCS in products to a level of 0.1% by weight.  Should the actual amount exceed this value, hazard warnings and control measures must be employed.”
